RHINOPLASTY IN NORTH SHORE, IL

WHAT IS RHINOPLASTY?

One of the most sought out treatments in our office is rhinoplasty with Dr. Anil Shah. Dr. Shah has been in the field of aesthetics since 2000 and he has been practicing in Chicago, IL, since 2008. Patients from across the world seek out Dr. Shah, including the North Shore.

Dr. Shah uses a no-mallet approach to the face. The no-mallet approach to the nose allows for patients to have less bruising and swelling. This type of approach for the nose, which uses Ultrasonic technology, is not as commonly used, and he is one of the few doctors in the country utilizing this approach. The main benefit of this approach, aside from less recovery time, is a much more precise result.

Dr. Shah also was able to subscribe to the 5Ds for many of his female patients. The 5Ds include deprojecting the nose, decreasing the length of the nose, decreasing the size of the tip, decrease the septum deviationand and typically decreasing the bone. Almost all of his patients seek his 5D approach for his female noses with some modifications based on other patients. Dr. Anil Shah treats, not just the outside of the nose, but the inside of the nose, as well. Dr. Shah is board-certified in both EMT and facial plastics. Oftentimes, form follows function. And he believes in doing something known as a complete septoplasty approach.

Types of Nose Jobs

Revision Rhinoplasty

Revision rhinoplasty, or redo rhinoplasty, refers to subsequent surgical procedures performed after an initial rhinoplasty. This surgery is often sought by patients desiring enhanced breathing capabilities, a restoration of their nose’s previous appearance, or further improvements to the results of their original rhinoplasty.

Ethnic Rhinoplasty

The term “ethnic” typically refers to patients of non-Caucasian origin. These patients generally seek a nose that complements their facial features and ethnicity, rather than altering their racial identity. Dr. Shah categorizes ethnic rhinoplasty into several groups due to the significant variations in nasal characteristics across different backgrounds. There is also a broad spectrum of natural nasal appearances within each specific ethnicity.

Septoplasty

Septoplasty involves modifying the nasal septum to straighten the airway and/or to harvest cartilage for grafting purposes. The nasal septum, made up of both cartilage and bone, ideally bisects the nose to allow for symmetrical and even airflow. However, approximately 80% of people have a deviated septum, where part of the septum encroaches into the airway. About one-third of these individuals experience symptoms, including mouth breathing during sleep or exercise, snoring, dry mouth, or persistent nasal congestion.

Rhinoplasty Without Using an Osteotome

Historically, rhinoplasties have used a traditional tool known as an osteotome, or chisel, to assist in shaping the nose.

However, the issue with using an osteotome lies in its blunt nature. Osteotomes, which are generally used to make controlled breaks, can sometimes result in undesirable outcomes due to the precision required in nasal surgery. To ensure more precise results, Dr. Shah utilizes specialized instruments tailored to meet the specific needs of his patients.

Preservation Rhinoplasty

Preservation Rhinoplasty adopts a method centered on three key principles of preservation, aimed at patients in Chicago seeking rhinoplasty with a more natural outcome, rather than one that appears excessively altered and might need further revisions. Dr. Shah employs these principles to achieve the natural-looking results his patients desire.

Scarless Rhinoplasty

Scarless rhinoplasty involves making incisions inside the nose rather than externally, ensuring that no visible scars are left on the patient. Dr. Shah employs this technique for patients who wish to refine the bridge of their nose while still preserving the appearance of their nasal tip.

Nonsurgical Rhinoplasty

Nonsurgical Rhinoplasty, also known as Liquid Rhinoplasty, involves using fillers or gels to reshape the nose without surgery. This technique is typically chosen by patients who wish to add volume to their nose rather than reduce its size. Dr. Shah, an expert injector with a deep understanding of facial anatomy, excels in providing patients with the fuller appearance they desire.

Insta Rhinoplasty

Insta Rhinoplasty is a method developed and refined by Dr. Shah that allows his patients to see the results of their nose surgery immediately after the procedure, while still in the operating room. This approach provides patients with immediate reassurance about the outcome of their surgery, sparing them the uncertainty of waiting through a year of healing to see the final results.

Thread Rhinoplasty

Thread Rhinoplasty uses threads to help support the nose either along the bridge of the nose or along the tip.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS RHINOPLASTY?

Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a “nose job,” is a surgical procedure aimed at reshaping the nose’s size, shape, or proportions. It can be performed for both aesthetic and functional purposes.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR RHINOPLASTY?

Candidates for rhinoplasty typically include individuals who are unhappy with the appearance of their nose or have functional issues such as breathing difficulties. It’s important to have realistic expectations and be in good overall health. A consultation with a qualified plastic surgeon is crucial to determine your candidacy.

HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY TIME AFTER RHINOPLASTY?

Recovery time can vary, but generally, you can expect to experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort for the first week or two. Most patients can resume light activities within a week, but it might take several weeks for the swelling to significantly subside. Full recovery can take a few months up to a year.

WILL THERE BE VISIBLE SCARRING AFTER RHINOPLASTY?

In most cases, incisions are made inside the nostrils (closed rhinoplasty) or in inconspicuous locations (open rhinoplasty). This helps minimize visible scarring. Your surgeon will discuss the approach that best suits your needs during the consultation.

ARE THERE RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH RHINOPLASTY?

Like any surgical procedure, rhinoplasty carries risks such as infection, bleeding, unfavorable scarring, and anesthesia complications. It’s essential to choose a skilled and experienced surgeon to minimize these risks. Your surgeon will discuss potential risks during the consultation.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR A RHINOPLASTY SURGERY?

Your surgeon will provide you with specific pre-operative instructions. This might include avoiding certain medications, stopping smoking, and arranging for a responsible adult to drive you home after the procedure. Following these guidelines is crucial for a successful surgery and recovery.

CAN I EXPECT NATURAL-LOOKING RESULTS FROM A RHINOPLASTY?

Experienced surgeons aim to achieve results that complement your facial features and appear natural. During your consultation, you can discuss your desired outcome and the surgeon can provide insights into what can be realistically achieved.

HOW CAN I MANAGE DISCOMFORT DURING THE RECOVERY PERIOD?

Your surgeon will prescribe pain medication to help manage discomfort. Additionally, following the post-operative care instructions, resting, and keeping your head elevated can aid in minimizing discomfort and swelling.
