Are we actually making ourselves look older with injectables? Many think the answer is, yes.
According to data shared from the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2022 75% of plastic surgeons saw a surge in patients under 30. While not every treatment or procedure in a plastics office is an injectable, it is positive to see young people care about their skin with lasers, and sunscreen. Could young people start being too aggressive when it comes to preventative treatments like injectables?
Since the emergence of social media, young people have a heightened sense of personal appearance. Only recently have certain skin care companies been forced to come forward to campaigns and warning labels letting teens and preteens know that a lot of these products are too harsh for young skin and that multiple step skin regimes are only meant for adults. In fact they’re actually harming their skin with harsh retinoids that they do not need yet. Many speculate that young people, under the age of 30 are doing the same but with injectables.
As most of us are familiar with the hit reality tv show Love Island, a lot of viewers noted how much older the cast looks for their age. Some have even coined it The Love Island Effect because many of the stars on the hit show Love Island because of their overuse of injectables actually look older than they actually are. But is the issue injectables or is the issue untrained or poorly trained injectors?
Love Island, which again inspired the term TLIE, is filmed in Britain which does NOT require any specific schooling or education to become an injector. So, perhaps many of the British reality tv stars are merely being injected by an untrained, unskilled and unqualified injector. Who injects your face is extremely serious and to trust someone who is trained solely in eyebrow waxing to inject you with anything is extremely dangerous. Beyond aging yourself with poorly placed filler, or over botoxed face having an unqualified injector could result in blindness, the death of skin tissue and very worst case scenario death.
As young people start experimenting with injectables more and more it’s important to make sound decisions with where you are seeking out injectables and who is administering them because over aging yourself could be the least of your worries if you end up with the wrong injector.
